Travelling Japan
The last post for 2024 is dedicated to my highlight of this year and one of the best experiences of my whole life.
I spend four weeks in Japan this summer and, needless to say, it was absolutely amazing!
I immediately fell in love with the temples (my next huge artwork is also inspired by this journey, or more specifically: a temple in Nara), the contrast to the modern and huge cities, the food (Ramen!), the fashion, the public transport system (being perfectly on time and clean), and the outstanding japanese politeness and willingness to help.
Planning this trip also took a lot of time, looking into where to go, what to visit, where to stay and how long, figuring out the transportation system (and how to ship your luggage around the country), learning some japanese phrases, etc. But all these days and weeks of planning really paid off! However, I realized, four weeks are not enough. At some point I will surely return, as there is so much more to discover in the land of the rising sun.
Between all the sightseeing, experiencing the culture, enjoying good food, and shopping, there was also some time for sketching, of course! So, here are some of my sketches and also a few more photos for you to enjoy:
ACEO [1-4]
Small originals (ACEO-size; 6.3 x 8.9cm) of some of my weird critters, drawn with ink and white pencil on toned paper.
Lucky [Gift]
A little gift I drew for friends a while ago. It shows one of their adorable cats, Lucky, who passed away a few months ago. Lucky enjoyed the sunny summer days, napping in the garden. To honor her, I wanted to capture such a moment on paper.
